Questions & answers
Help with importing Kodak Charmera photos and videos into Apple Photos. New here? Start with setup.
What does Charmoire import?
Photos and videos from your KODAK Charmera into Apple Photos, on macOS 14 or later. Charmera AVI videos are prepared locally for Apple Photos without reducing image or sound quality.
Does it change image or sound quality?
For JPEG photos, Charmoire corrects date and dimension metadata on a temporary copy so Photos can read the file properly. The compressed image data stays unchanged: colors, grain, blur, and any date stamped into the picture stay as you shot them.
For Charmera videos, Charmoire changes the container from AVI to MOV without re-encoding the video or audio. The file format changes; image and sound quality do not.
Are the originals kept on my camera?
Yes. Normal syncing leaves your camera originals untouched. Adding imports to an album does not remove them from your library. If you enable Ask to move synced files to Trash, Charmoire asks before moving newly imported camera files to macOS Trash.
Will reconnecting import everything again?
Charmoire keeps local import history to recognize previous imports. Reconnecting checks for new items instead of starting over. JPEG recognition can also identify renamed photos by their image content. Video matching uses the original file or matching media details; an independently edited or transcoded video may not be recognized.
Can imports go into an album?
Yes. Turn on Add synced items to an album and pick an album in Charmoire. This is optional; imports always go into your Apple Photos library.
Will deleted library items come back?
Routine checks respect items you deliberately removed from Apple Photos. Reconnecting does not automatically restore them from the camera.
What happens if an import is interrupted?
Charmoire records import progress and checks uncertain results before trying again. If it needs your help, the Status section shows the next action. You do not need to clear your import history.
What does the collected total include?
Photos and videos imported by Charmoire, plus items it recognizes from earlier manual imports. It is a running history, so removing a file later does not reduce the total.
Why isn’t my camera showing up?
Check that your USB cable carries data and the camera drive appears in Finder. Follow any remaining setup prompts in Charmoire, then use Check Now.
How do I allow Photos access?
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos and check Charmoire’s access. Return to Charmoire and choose Finish and sync when setup is ready. Restoring permission alone does not restart importing.
Do I need an account?
No. Processing happens on your Mac, with no Charmoire account or media storage service. If you use iCloud Photos, Apple syncs your library according to your settings.
Does Charmoire need an internet connection?
Importing and checking your camera work offline. An internet connection is needed only to check for and download app updates. iCloud Photos follows your Apple settings independently.
What if an item is only in iCloud?
Charmoire can skip a likely duplicate using matching media details without downloading its original. The check result tells you when this happens. A likely match alone never makes a camera file eligible for cleanup.
